Poetry: Existing Without Words

“Human traits that span the entire spectrum…” said Omar.

Each of us seeing the world through different lenses

Neither good nor bad

We exist

We are born in our unique truths

Words were meant to help us

We used them to label us, betray us

Why do we insist on who is good and who is bad?

How do we decide who is right and who is wrong?

Where can we go without words?

What if we used words to heal, to lead us to different ideas, to a world where words are simply suggestions, not rules.

I was me, but they labeled me different

They told me I was wrong, that I was bad, that I was broken

I believed them, their words became my religion

Living it for seventeen years

Dying a little each day.

Finally, I said -ya basta-

Those are not my labels

I will define myself

Now I have changed again, a stronger version of me

I am removing the labels

Peeling off each one carefully so as not to leave any marks

I exist without words

You exist without words

Once upon a time we all existed without words

Maybe one day we will live that way again.

Have You Ever…. Wrote a Body Love Letter?

Why not love ourselves? Why not write ourselves love letters? Go ahead and give it a try. Start cultivating gratitude until your garden is overflowing with unconditional love.  Below is a letter I wrote to myself last night. I hope it inspires you to write your own body love letter.

If you write a love letter to your body, please link it in the comments below and I will reblog it!

Oh Body, you have been with me since day one and will be with me until my last breath. I’m so grateful for you!

Thank you for my  wild hair that is a reflection of my untamed heart. I love having size 11 feet that allow me to walk long distances. I love being six feet tall, having fat around my belly and tiny breasts that will never be considered voluptuous. From my scalp to my toes, inside and out, I love you more than any beauty style or product.

All of our scars tell stories that have made us who we are. From broken bones that healed to bruised hearts that continue beating, I am so lucky to have you. You never stop working to keep me alive and I’m so grateful for you!

Screw this whole idea of hating you. How could I even live without you? I couldn’t! We are one and in love and will be together for as long as possible.

With unconditional love, Leah

Gorgeous Gems

Thanks to GorgeousoCity blog for joining my blog challenge.  This blogger is ‘Sharing Gems of Gorgeousness’ by writing about beauty and skincare – particularly of the natural and organic variety. This former beauty editor took the jump from working for someone else to creating independence with her own business.  One of my favorite posts is about eidble beauty oil by Bay of Plenty.  You simply enjoy a yummy spoonful of this oil and it replenishes your skin from the inside out.

She also has solid advice like her wonderfully honest post on our quest for perfection.  She talks about a film by Jean Kilbournde and the prevelance of photoshop in the beauty/fashion industry. It’s great advice without being judgemental.

So visit this blog and subscribe to the updates so you don’t miss out on a new and healthy beauty products. http://gorgeousocity.wordpress.com/2012/01/29/empowering-young-women

Smart is Beautiful. Does your child know?

Take that all you silly shirts aimed at young girls and boys.  Telling them studying is stupid. Partying is better. blah blah blah! I would not let my daughter wear a shirt that says something along the lines of instead of homework I’d rather be at the MALL.   I am sure she would be. Well I secretly hope she will rather be saving the wetlands or fighting for human rights or heck even setting up a lemonade stand than the mall. Bu every good parent knows what a child wants is not necessarily what they need.

So thank you Justice brand clothing for this design.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!   We need this message more often. We don’t need pretty girls acting in movies and pretending to be smart. We simply need to focus more attention on smarts and less on the drama of whoever flashed their underpants on the next hot reality show.  It isn’t just about girls either,  I see ignorance and stupidity marketed to boys as well. Violence is a more popular theme with boys and it is no better than promoting a girls just want to have fun mentality. Than there are the Girls rule Boys drool.  UGH! I am sure most boys just roll their eyes,  but I’d wager it makes some feel that maybe they are lame.

THIS HOODIE SPEAKS THE TRUTH. SMART IS BEAUTIFUL.

I have more suggestions:

KIND IS BEAUTY

COMPASSION IS HOT

TOLERANCE IS SEXY

ACCEPTANCE IS COOL

Thanks for reading, leave a comment. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ON YOUR CHILDREN’S CLOTHING?

So Far

I am on a never ending quest for knowledge because I am very curious, I enjoy learning new information and hope to better myself along the way.

I also hope to empower others so they can learn more and thus have more options in life. The world we live in is always beautiful. Look around and see flowers growing out of a gutter drain for some proof. It can also be cruel, frustrating and downright ugly at times. We must all make a choice to live a certain way and to find or create beauty. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to respect and treasure what makes our lives worth living.

I created a website to share what I have learned and to empower all people to be the best version of themselves. http://mpwru.webs.com is a combination of peaceful actions that we can take to improve quality of life for all people no matter where they were born, what they believe or what actions they have taken that brought them to their current situation. It is not useful to judge others harshly until you have walked in their shoes. Even then, we all relate to the world differently so it’s difficult to say you know how someone else feels.

What have you learned recently that helped you and can benefit others? Please leave a comment. 🙂

In Loving Memory

I wrote this after one of my closest and dearest friends suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.

When I look around I see people who loved and were loved by her. I see faces full of strength just like her, but unknown it seems to many of them.
I see beauty in every person radiating out with the love and respect of a mutual friend. Yet many have voiced disbelief of their own beauty.
Her talents were limitless because of the faith in herself. That isn’t often the case with me though I wish it to be.
It takes a gifted heart to be open for a world of different yet equally loving hearts. She had this gift and shared it everyday. It is a gift that beats inside the chest of everyone, but how scared some of us are to share it with strangers. It is a loss to the world when we do.
All of have the same strength she eagerly shared, we just have to exercise it more often.
All of us are beautiful when we smile wide and share our voice with the world. We simply must remember and remind each other often enough until we believe it.
All of us can be just as open as her if we will only take the chance each and every day.
My wish is that you will find all these qualities and forever let them shine. If you are hiding, then it’s time to step out and show the world what it really means to be strong, beautiful, talented and open.

Can You Show Me

What do you see when you look at me? Can you teach me how to see what you see?

All I see is a scared little girl, unable to speak, unable to breathe. I want to shout for help. I want to see what others see.

When I look at you I see someone strong, unafraid to take risks, unafraid to be wrong.

When I look at me all I see is fear. I want to be like you but now you’re gone. How can I ask you what you see.

Just come back for a minute and tell me. Please please please tell me what you see!

Beyond Beauty

So it really is in the eye of the beholder?

After years of wanting to be beautiful I finally feel that way.  There is quite a difference between being told you are beautiful and actually believing it. It took me forever to have this chance to look in the mirror and think “Wow! I really am pretty.”   Unfortunately this came at a point in my life when I also realized that beauty only gets you so far. The rest has to do with talents, ability, emotional stability.

Yeesh! If only I had figured this out earlier. I could have been working on my talents instead of waiting for my looks to arrive. So my new goal is to grow my talents and find out what I really want from life.   This blog is part of my journey.  Time to let go my fears and see what I am capable of.

Wish me luck…….

🙂
