Helping Handful – An Easy New Years Resolution

How about a new years resolution to clean up our planet? Will you pick up a helping handful to kick off this new calendar year?  Will you commit to picking up a helping handful once a week?

In 2019 I encourage you to value our oceans, parks, rivers and mountains over the convenience of single use plastics and plastic packaging that can’t be recycled and isn’t biodegradable.

Here are a few of my recent helping handfuls during my pollution patrol. I hope this inspires you to pick up trash, consume less, and think twice about how we treat nature. Remember, we are part of nature, not apart from nature.

If you really want to make a difference, commit to reducing your waste footprint. Choose to not buy food and products packaged in plastic or aluminum. You can go all in or start with replacing a few plastic packaged items in your shopping list with glass or paper packaging.

You can support my pollution patrol project on Ko-fi.com/loviedo.Have you picked up pollution in your neighborhood? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment.

We Are The Problem; We Are The Answer

You’ve heard it before. I’ll repeat it as often as needed.

WE CANNOT CHANGE THE ENTIRE WORLD, BUT WE CAN CHANGE OUR SELVES.

Your power is inside your core. It is rooted in your intelligent, your compassion, your health. Each time you make some bullshit excuse and say yes to convenience over sustainability, each time you allow the hate of people like Trump and his supporters, or the greedy policy of corporate backed democrats, or that rude, gossipy person in your life push you down and hurt you and you say “I give up”, you are NOT being part of the solution. You are not living from your truth.

When you confront these decisions and people and stay strong in your heart space, you win. We all win. I didn’t want to believe that inner peace was the answer. It sounded too new age, too out of touch. Inner peace doesn’t stop a violent partner or a racist police force. But years of learning about the whole world instead of just my bubble has taught me that our personal actions are extremely powerful.

I’m understanding this message more each day. We are the problem and the answer. Together we thrive, but only if our individual self is communicating from a place of compassion and intelligence.

>>>>> What do you think about that? <<<<<

Everyone is talking about Net Neutrality. Take action now.

As a human rights activist, internet equality means saving lives by sharing voices! As an artist and writer who uses the internet to earn an income, net neutrality is crucial to my success! We have to rise up loudly and make sure this new administration doesn’t give our power of community to corporations! Citizens United already states that profits are more important than people. !Ya basta! Call your representatives, write letters, sign petitions and if you can join an action to stop the FCC from selling out. We, the taxpayers should have more rights than corporations!
You can learn more and FIND AN ACTION NEAR YOU on the Rise Up Times blog.
“Enough is enough: It’s time to go all in for the open internet. More than 600 protests across the country have already been scheduled! This is an easy and fun way to show up for Net Neutrality, connect with other open-internet supporters, and send a message to Congress and the FCC. Click here to find a rally near you, or sign up to host one!”

Rise Up Times

Urgent: FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has scheduled a Dec. 14 vote to roll back the Title II Net Neutrality rules. That means it’s time to amp up our efforts to save the open internet.

Don't end Net Neutrality

We’ve seen a tremendous amount of activism to protect Net Neutrality, and people like you have made the phones at the FCC and in Congress ring off the hook. This response has been amazing and it’s working: Lawmakers are tweeting and writing letters to express their support for the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to respond,

Now that we have everyone’s attention, it’s time to take to the streets. [See below for protests in the Twin Cities area.)

If the FCC succeeds in killing Net Neutrality, companies like Verizon will be able to censor online content and pick and choose what you can see…

Why Representation of Everybody is Good For Everybody: Ending Negative Stereotypes

Because of the high-profile of Hilary Clinton in the international arena, there’s a lot of speculation right now about the chance that the next president of the USA could be a woman. Other countries have already elected women presidents and prime ministers. Women are rulers and warriors, but we rarely see them on the elementary school walls next to our founding fathers. Seeing a woman president doesn’t just give girls and women ideas of what they can accomplish. It gives young and impressionable boys a more well-rounded way of looking at their female peers. When those boys grow up they will not only see women as objects or less than them, but as equals competent at running a country, not just a household. As men they can support their female peers to have as much privilege as they do.

It’s the same as seeing Misty Copeland dance as the FIRST African-American Principle dancer in the American Ballet. Now, not only can aspiring black and brown girls see themselves in that role, but so can their male counterparts who will one day be on stage with them believing that women of color belong in leading roles.

We need to see BLACK males as happy, successful, kind and good fathers to end the violent thug and drug dealing gangster stereotypes.

We need to see independent and intelligent LATINAS as leaders in our communities, not as sex objects or maids.

We need to see intelligent and accomplished NATIVE AMERICANS in politics, onscreen and n every industry, not as victims of colonialism or dressed in beads wasting away on reservations.

We need to see ASIAN actors in dramas, comedies and romance, not just as kung fu masters, mail order brides or sidekicks.

We need to see strong and independent INDIAN women who are not silent victims of acid attacks, sexism or rape.

We need to see women and men of color in our LGBTQ communities as loving parents, not as tokens.

We need to see those who are DISABLED as competent and suitable to succeed in business, science or as athletics, not as damsels in distress waiting for us to save them.

It’s not just young children who need to see them so they too can become all they can imagine and more. It is ALL OF US who need to see this so we can stop our snap judgements and prejudiced views. We need to see real diversity so we can insure that everyone has an equal chance. For those of us with privilege, in whatever form it is, it’s time to step up, to pull strings and level the playing field so we no longer have the upper hand. We must do this not as if we are the only ones who can “save” others who have less, but as their equals. We won’t lose as much as we think, but we will gain so much more!

D.I.Y. Therapy: Finding Your Happiness and Following Your Truth

Life is challenging and how we react to this is what decides our happiness. We can give up or we can move forward. For many years I gave up. I barely tried and ended up wallowing in pain and depression that lasted way too long.  Luckily I woke up and realized that my life was in my control. I taught myself to be happy by learning my own truth, trusting my struggle and staying focused on creating a life that I would enjoy.

textgram_1441216782

How did I find my truth? By asking myself questions and then taking action.

What makes me happy in the long run as opposed to instant gratification?

What are my true passions?

Am I willing to move forward beyond my fear and live a life that resonates as true happiness with my inner self?

Once I began to answer these questions I began to take action. I started writing, published books, became a self-defense instructor, read every self-help book I could find and asked for help. It wasn’t easy. Some days are hard and I forget my truth, but I always come back. I know that you can do this too. You just have to make the choice to find your truth and LIVE IT!

An important aspect of staying happy is to find things and activities that make you feel good AND are also good for you. You probably won’t find happiness at the bottom of a tequila bottle or immersing yourself in angry depression movies, books and music. When I was in the process of healing I gave up those things for more positive entertainment. If you also choose positive reinforcement throughout your daily life, you’ll see a change in your thoughts which will in turn change your feelings.

When I’m feeling mentally strung out I really like HUGS, positive affirmations and time with people who love me without judgement. To keep my physical body feeling good I gave up the daily sodas and twinkies and instea choose flavorful healthy foods and lots of movement.  Yoga, swimming, paddbleboarding and walking really keep my energy up and on par with my positive mental state.

Remember there will be days and moments when you won’t be happy. That’s okay. You’re an imperfectly perfect being. Embrace that reality and RELEASE the expectation to always be bright and cheerful.
