I have read several articles stating that women were the driving force behind the middle east protests in 2011. This makes sense to me, since the civil rights movement in the USA was started by women(african american).
Dalia Mogahed reminds us that “30 percent of those who braved the tanks in the Arab Spring were women.”
Individual Empowerment 
Absolutely. I learned about racism very early in school, but it was after college when I learned about how often and easily our patriarchy degrades and removes women from history books. It pisses me off to no end.
