A little bit about me…

I’m certified in Mental Health First Aid, but not a licensed therapist. What I share is from my own experiences including; volunteering in mental health recovery, research, and healing my own depression, grief, and trauma.

I am a writer, artist, and mental health advocate. My life goals are to enjoy life and be part of creating a healthier, all inclusive culture on our beautiful planet. I was raised in a multi cultural family where I learned early on the power of prejudice and the stronger power of inclusiveness. I strive to be intersectional in all my words and actions.Β

Peace and hugs, Leah

  2. First off, thank you for wanting to give back to others and for sharing your story. That is inspiring to hear. Since you have been through the system you are now an awesome example that it is never too late to turn your life around.

Since I don’t live in Texas I suggest finding a mentor in your area that would be willing to work on this project. I am not sure how far Pflugerville is from you, but there is this amazing woman named Deborah Orr who mentors youth through literature. She might be able to help or connect you with someone who can. http://outreachlibrarians.org/about-us/

Here are two mentors I would suggest connecting with or studying, even though they are not in Texas.
Ron Tinsley who mentors young men, https://impoweryou.org/2013/03/04/role-model-ron-tinsley/
Christoher McFadden of the Philadelphia Youth Project, https://impoweryou.org/2013/04/08/christopher-mcfadden-pyp/. Both have done amazing work for the youth in their community.

It takes a lot ot start a non-profit including money, but you can start a program without NP status if you are really determined. Either way it is good to be informed of all your options. Check out this site that has info on how to start a non-profit in TX. http://www.startnonprofitorganization.com/starting-a-nonprofit-in-texas

  3. I am an ex-drug dealer, gang member, and ex-con who, in the mist of my incarnation, have changed my life and is now attending UTA. I need your assistance in starting a non-profit organization geared towards preparing inner city youth for a higher education. I have a desire to fix what I was instrumental in destroying… Please help!
