My 2014 Birthday Wish

At the end of this month is my birthday. YIPPEE!!!  Growing older and becoming wiser is such a gift. I know a lot of people feel that getting older is unattractive or a countdown to the end, but that’s probably because we live in this media guided society obsessed with youth.  Seriously? Youth? We focus on the most challenging and confounding time in our short life instead of the amazing gift of our older years where we have learned so much and can thus appreciate this time? That makes no sense.

Now I am not saying that youth equals ignorance. Maturity and intelligence is not dependant upon age. However we’re constantly learning and changing our minds well into our twilight years, hence the younger you are the less you know. This makes it difficult to navigate epic moments and solve problems without the skills we can only gain from time and experience. Growing older is wonderful. Instead of believing that young= success, we should honor and revere those who are older and wiser.  Being old is something to be proud of and appreciate. I hope to live many more decades and continue to live in each moment, planning ahead for the future, but not fearing it.

The knowledge I gained from growing and experiencing life is what inspires my writing. My first published book, More Than Just a Girl, came to be after I worked at a resource center for survivors of domestic violence. I wanted and needed a way to be part of the solution. So I created the book as an activity and informational guide for young girls to realize they deserve and can create healthy and safe relationships. My following books on self defense, feminism, art, and sustainable change are also the culmination of everything I have learned. Writing allows me to do what I love which is encourage people with information and positive resources so they can create a life that resonates with them and brings them happiness.

So my birthday wish isn’t for anything grand, just a little acknowledgement that all these books I wrote are actually worthwhile. My birthday wish is that you buy one of my books. Whether it’s a 99 cents ebook or a $8-$16 paper book, I ask that you give me the gift of success. Share this blog far and wide, recommend my writing, and show some love. Below is a list of all my books and where they can be purchased.
